Don’t Miss the Opportunity

Ever wish you would have said “more”? I mean, like telling a friend, a neighbor, or even an acquaintance how special you think they are, how kind, what they taught you, or how they have touched your life? Just a few words to thank the individual; in the grand scheme of things how much time out of our life would that take? And no doubt, it would be a “feel good” moment for both. We need more of those. Too many people are suffering – feeling sad, feeling stressed, feeling anxiety, feeling depressed, feeling helpless. The other day I heard on the radio the numbers of those taking medications for just these feelings. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how high those figures were, because, no doubt, you, a family member, or someone you know is on one prescription or another. But I’m off on a tangent now….what I really am writing about is the opportunity I missed to tell a kind man, an interesting man, a giving man, a family man and a businessman how I felt about him.  I’m sure you’ve figured out why it is too late. Tomorrow is his funeral. Last night, my youngest daughter stopped by the funeral home for his viewing, she had to wait in line for almost two hours. But exactly six weeks ago my daughter had a destination wedding at a castle three hours from our home and even though this man had gone through an array of horrendous treatments and had trouble standing, he made the trip with his family. I spoke to him and he said he wouldn’t have missed it. My daughter and her new husband made a special point to get a group picture. Maybe he knew how our family felt about him, but you can be sure I will tell those close to him when we stop by the funeral home this afternoon.
